Smiley gets serious.

Well it's Sunday night, and for me that means having the day off for riding, chilling, and then likely heading out to hear some drum and bass at lovely Tommy Africa's. I stayed away from Drum and Bass for many years beacause my theory was that even the cute little yellow smiley face DJ above turns aggressive when the Drum and Bass hits, and that just wasn't my style. But perspectives change and sometimes it's just a case of hearing the right stuff at the right time. Tonight, while I cook supper, with thoughts of the evening slowly creeping into my mind it turns out a a little Benny Page was the right stuff. First up we have a remix he did of Kenny Ken's track "Every Man". I'm not sure how exactly to describe this track but it's got a groovy reggae vibe, with some fun vocals that are always good to hear. Next up is Benny Page's own "Can't Test" has a similar vibe to the first track, with a smooth almost sexy sound to it.

However, the final track I would like to share is probably one of those tracks that would have initially turned me off of Drum and Bass, and similar tracks still generally aren't my style but for whatever reason I f'ing love Neckbreaker. With a slow build you totally don't see it coming and then out of nowhere shit gets twisted! Enjoy!

That special someone...

I can't remember how I bumped into the video for Grum's catchy dance track "Through the Night" but I am sure glad I did because, wow, just WOW! What a passionate and utterly moving display of two best friends. They are partners on the police force but they also do everything else together. They go to the club together, they joke around together, and they just love each other's darn company. Everything is perfect until something happens.... I guess you'll hafta watch the video and see for yourself, but I can say it is very rare that a simple music video can touch the heart and take you on such an emotional roller coaster in such a short time. Plus they both have moustaches. That right there should be good enough reason to check it out.

What did I tell ya? Feeling the urge to give that special someone a hug? If you wanna relive the tale again and again I have posted the Original Mix and the Perseus Club Mix for download as well as a remix that Grum did which starts off a bit like Blue Monday, but carries on into quite a unique and funky track of its own. Check them out!

Yin And Yang - Balance is the key to a healthy lifestyle

After indulging on a delicious platter of spiced up retro fusions conjured up by my most bodacious compadre Evan, I wanted to elaborate on his comment about mainstream dubstep and chainsaw sounds.

The chainsaw sound that has been widely misused in the dubstep world has spit out a bunch of garbled sounds that yes rumble the begeezes out of your rectum but in my mind lack any sort of musical composition. There has been often nights where I have gone to a Dubstep night to go Womp the night away and found myself extremely bored of the same low frequency wobble and beat pattern droning on and on. Used correctly at the opportune moment, the "dubstep wobble bassline" combined with the chainsaw glitches can throw even your grandmother into a violent crumped out seizure. Like anything in life there must be a yin to balance the yang. All I am really saying is that some people are more attached to only the chainsaw sounds and wobbles than making music. The chainsaw sound is simply a tool, it cant make the finished product alone.

Anyways enough chatter and more music. I have 2 playlists currently made: The first is simply "dirty dubstep" and the other "clean dreamy dubstep". Pretty self explanatory, although my dirty dubstep folder consists of songs that make use of wobbles and chainsaw sounds artistically along with melodies . Perfect I now have music to get down and dirty to and then shower to!

Here are a couple tracks from each playlist for your enjoyment. Remember balance is the key to a healthy lifestyle.

OMG, I'm so Retro.

Well as Dubstep attempts to get dirtier and dirtier, somehow trying to out do one another with more and more chainsaw sounds another dance sound was emerging. This would be the Nu-Disco and 80's influenced dance music, keeping it funky, melodic and fun all the way. I'd been listening to this stuff for a while but one day, I looked down at my vintage t-shirt, and all the holes in my jeans, and at the episode of "Blossom" on my wood-rimmed TV and I eyed up my cassette tape collection and suddenly I realized "OMG, I'm so retro". So after you download all these tracks you too can feel the same. It's a good feeling.

SU-shi brings the Avocado Roll

SU-Shi aka Kevin Su enters the world of music production with his first track OM. And coincidently enough, his track is kinda like eating an Avocado roll. First your stomach might be rumbling in anticipation of the sushi to come, similar to the low rumbles that the track starts with. Then you prepare the ginger and wasabi and soy sauce and then as you eat the sushi it keeps delivering different flavours throughout tasty journey that is a piece of avocado roll. It's the smoothness of the avocado contrasting the harsher lingering sensation form the wasabi, paralleling the way the young SU-shi builds his track into a smooth melodic journey with the harsher lingering sounds to hold it all together. Or something like that...

It's Go Time!

My first real blog post. Neato! I can't say exactly what kind of music I plan to post in the future. Why should I limit myself? I'll just keep passing on to you whatever tunes I'm digging at the moment, and hopefully all the great vibes that come with the music. I've always loved hooking people up with tunes. Ever since I could burn cds I would show anyone with a slight interest what this Trance music was all about that I was obsessed with back in the day. I have found plenty of awesome tracks spanning several genres over the last while so get ready. Music is a powerful thing.

As for this blog, it's been too much farting around trying to figure things. Music blogs are quite tricky. First you need a good reliable host for many large files, and then you need a small music player to embed into the blog so that you can stream the files immediately, while also offering an instant download. I tried, but endless problems are the result. Those are things I may work towards in the future, but for now it's simply 3rd party download sites to host my stuff. Just don't be tricked by the wrong download buttons. Find the actual file name at the bottom and right click, save as.

And now for the music. What better way to kick things off than with 30 tunes over the course of 2 mixes that I put together? The first mix I'm posting is a result of recently hearing a few electronic-female-vocal-pop songs that really got my attention. I decided to make an entire mix based on this concept. The mix starts off quite slow and gradually picks up throughout until I slow it down for one more epic track featuring Feist. This mix is titled "Too Much Emotion" and I dedicate this one to all the ladies out there and all their lovely bundles of emotions that I can not fathom. Enjoy! Feedback much appreciated.

The Second mix is called "Doing the Mess Around" because that's what I was up to as this was my first attempt at something like this. I played around quite a while with several tracks see how I could squish the fairly diverse stuff into an 72 minute mix yet all the while progressing the mix to a much more elevated place than it's seriously chilled beginnings. It would be an excellent mix to use as an alarm to if you had exactly 72 minutes to leave the house. You would wake up slowly but be bouncing and grooving by the time you left. The first 4 tracks are quite ambient yet with enough percussion to keep you awake and chilling. But then it moves into some weird mid range sounds including a mash up of "Worms" by The Presets and "Roygbiv" by Boards of Canada, before finishing with some bouncy and glitchy progressive house. This was a super fun project and I was pretty stoked with the final result. I hope you enjoy these. There should be some fresh tracks up in the near future as well!
